The Indian Hills Community College athletic department has recognized freshman Clayton Grainger (men’s cross country) and sophomore Raegan Moeller (volleyball) as September’s student-athletes of the month. This accolade honors student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding work in their respective sport and in the classroom.
Grainger, a freshman from Carthage, Illinois, has quickly become a leader for the Warrior cross country team. "Clayton is one of those athletes that has the ability to be a great runner with the drive and determination to go along with it," said head coach Scott Barnes." Grainger has crossed the finish line first for the Warriors in three of the first five meets of the season, including a 27:05 performance at the Les Duke Invite, the fastest 8k debut in program history. Coach Barnes marvels at Grainger’s maturity. “His ability to lead by example and take care of his off the course duties as a student-athlete goes further than what you expect a freshman to reflect." Grainger and the Warrior cross country team will travel to Muskegon, Michigan next to compete in the Muskegon Community College Jayhawk Invite Friday, October 13th. This will be Grainger’s final tune up before the ICCAC Regional Championship hosted by Iowa Central on Sunday, October 29th.
