Centerville, IA – Sophomores Cole Huebner (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) and Cale Clark (Marionville, MO/Marionville) led the Indian Hills Baseball team to a 5-1 record last week. The duo have been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors secured five conference victories as Clark paced the offense to earn ICCAC DI Baseball Offensive Player of the Week honors while Huebner bolstered the pitching staff to land the ICCAC DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. Indian Hills sits a half game out of the ICCAC DI Baseball standings with a 12-6 league record on the year.
Huebner collects his fourth ICCAC DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor, and sixth of his Indian Hills career after posting a 2-0 record on the mound without allowing a run in two starts. The sophomore worked 12 innings, allowing nine hits while striking out 17 batters on the week.
Huebner opened the week with five scoreless innings in a 19-0 victory at Southwestern Community College, allowing just two base hits to go along with seven strikeouts. Huebner followed up with a complete game shutout of Des Moines Area Community College on Sunday, going all seven innings while striking out a season-high 10 batters with zero walks allowed. With a sixth inning strikeout against the Bears, Huebner surpassed the 100-career strikeout milestone for his career at Indian Hills.
The sophomore is now 5-4 on the year with a 3.54 earned run average and 52 strikeouts, second-most in the ICCAC.
Clark lands his second consecutive ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor after another standout performance at the plate. The sophomore collected multi-hit games in all six contests for the Warriors last week, going 15-26 (.577) with five extra base hits and 12 RBI. Clark has now hit safely in nine of the team's last 10 contests while upping his team-leading batting average to .368 on the year.
Clark added eight runs scored on the walk while collecting four walks to boast a .613 on-base percentage for the week. Clark currently ranks second in the ICCAC in batting average and RBI (39) on the year.
The Warriors are back in action at Pat Daugherty Field Wednesday afternoon for an ICCAC doubleheader with Marshalltown Community College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
