Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team picked up a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) victories on Wednesday, dropping Marshalltown Community College 6-2 and 15-5. The Warriors move to 20-17 overall and 14-6 in league play.
Indian Hills pushes its win streak to four games and have now won 11 of its last 12 outings. The Warriors are now tied for first-place in the ICCAC DI Baseball standings with Iowa Western Community College.
The Warriors never trailed at Pat Daugherty Field on Wednesday, totaling 21 hits at the plate to run past the Tigers for the 20th consecutive matchup. Indian Hills sweeps the three-game regular season ICCAC series with the Tigers, outscoring Marshalltown 33-13.
The two sides made quick work of one another through the first three frames as Warrior starting pitcher Jonah Mayoral (Littleton, CO/Heritage) kept the Tigers scoreless. Indian Hills broke things open in the bottom half of the fourth as Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Repubic/Springfield Commonwealth) doubled to right center followed by a run-scoring double from AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling). Jeryel Oquendo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Academy) delivered an RBI single to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
Marshalltown struck back with a pair of runs in the sixth, but Indian Hills fended off the rally with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Boris Rodriguez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico/ESCAED). Sophomore Aiden Ennis (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward Catholic) recorded his second save of the year after striking out four batters in 1.2 innings of relief work.
Mayoral produced one of his most effective outings of the year while collecting his first-career win on the mound. The freshman scattered five hits while issuing just one walk with two earned runs in 5.1 innings of action.
The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board in game two with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first inning. After an RBI single in the first, Marchetti tacked on another run-scoring base knock in the second to help extend the Warrior lead to 4-1. The Warriors went on to score at least one run in five of the next six innings to run away for the sweep.
Marchetti produced a career-day, going 4-6 at the plate with a home run and six RBI. The sophomore catcher also threw out a pair of runners behind the plate. Marchetti, who owns a current eight-game hitting streak, is one of just two players in the nation with at least a .350 batting average, five home runs, and 13 runners thrown out.
On the mound, freshman Lincoln Muller (Delta, Canada/Sands Secondary) made his first-career start on the bump before Wesly Martinez (Methuen, MA/Methuen) came in and tossed five innings of relief work, allowing just one unearned run while striking out four batters.
Eight players in total tallied a hit in the nightcap as Ramos went 3-4 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Over the team's last 12 outings, the Warriors are outscoring their opponents 146-63 to surge to the top of the ICCAC DI standings with Iowa Western. Both teams have 13 regular season ICCAC contests remaining.
The Warriors return to action on the road this weekend with a three-game series against Iowa Lakes Community College. First pitch Friday is set for 1:00 PM.
