MENDEZ'S CAREER DAY POWERS WARRIORS TO SPLIT

Millington, TN – The Indian Hills Baseball squad capped its season-opening trip to Tennessee with a doubleheader split on Saturday. The Warriors fell in the opener 8-5 to Lincoln Land Community College (IL) before taking down Kaskaskia College (IL) 10-0 in the finale. The Warriors move to 2-2 overall on the year.

For the second consecutive day, the Warrior offense found success at the dish with a number of big innings. Indian Hills used a four-run second inning to stay in contention with Lincoln Land in the opener before falling short, but two more four-run frames against Kaskaskia helped Indian Hills roll to a run-rule shortened victory in the nightcap. In the team's first four games of the year, the Warriors have now seen six separate innings with four runs in a single inning.

After falling behind 4-0 in the opener vs. Lincoln Land, the Warriors used RBI base hits from Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) and Dryden Pidlisny (Medicine Hat, Alberta/South Central) before tacking on two more runs in the frame to tie the game at four-all. The Loggers slowly regained the lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. A home run from sophomore Kevin Ramos (santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth), his first of the season, put a dent in the deficit in the bottom half of the fifth, but the Loggers pulled away down the stretch for the win.

Six different Warriors collected a hit in the loss, including Ramos' home run and a triple from Brody Geist (Arvada, CO/Standley Lake). Ethan Martin (Milton, Ontario/Craig Kielburger Secondary) provided 2.1 innings of solid relief work in the loss.

In the finale vs. Kaskaskia, sophomore Diego Mendez starred for the Warriors with a career performance at the plate. Leading 1-0 in the top half of the first inning, Mendez stroked a three-run double to right field for the commanding lead. The sophomore followed up with a grand slam in the top of the third, the first of his career, to put the game out of reach.

Mendez finished the matchup 2-2 at the plate with a career-high seven RBI and six total bases.

Freshman Dylan Eshuis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Jan Arentsz Alkmaar) picked up with the win on the mound with four innings of work, scattering four hits with three strikeouts for the Warriors.

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Hot Springs, AR to take on National Park College (AR) for a four-game series February 19-20.
