Centerville, IA – Following a breakout performance last week for Indian Hills Baseball, sophomore Jose Lopez (Las Tablas, Panama/Springfield Commonwealth) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Baseball Player of the Week.
Lopez powered the Warriors to a 4-0 week on the diamond during their trip to Hot Springs, AR, sweeping the series vs. National Park College (AR). As team, the Warriors outscored the Nighthawks 73-16 thanks in large part to Lopez's efforts at the plate.
Lopez posted a .467 batting average at the dish, going 7-15 with six extra base knocks. Lopez added 15 RBI, seven runs scored, three walks, a hit by pitch, and three stolen bases to his stat line during the four-game stretch. Lopez added a .550 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage for the week.
Lopez tallied a double and two RBI in the opening affair vs. National Park before delivering a career performance in game two. The sophomore produced a remarkable three home run, 10 RBI effort as the Warriors rolled the Nighthawks 25-3. In addition, Lopez added three runs scored along with a triple to finish the game 4-5.
Lopez added a 2-3 effort in game three, driving in a pair of runs while adding a double. In the finale, Lopez swiped two bags on the base paths while adding two runs scored for the Warriors.
Defensively, Lopez split time behind the plate and at first base for the Warriors. Lopez threw out a pair of runners in addition to four assists while boasting a 1.000 fielding percentage in 30 total chances.
On the year, Lopez is batting .346 with four home runs, 20 RBI, 10 runs scored, and five stolen bases. Lopez ranks in the top-three in the ICCAC in RBI, home runs, and stolen bases this season, the only individual in the league to claim that honor.
