Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Joao Das Chagas (Niquelândia, Brazil/Arizona Western) of the No. 3 ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball team has been tapped as this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week after a dominant performance on the hardwood last week.
Das Chagas has emerged down the stretch for the Warriors as the sophomore powered Indian Hills to two victories last week. In the two victories, Das Chagas averaged 18.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 84.2 percent from the floor.
In an overtime road win over Highland Community College (IL) on Tuesday night, Das Chagas collected his second double-double of the year, tallying 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Das Chagas followed up with a career-night at the Hellyer Center on Friday night as the sophomore poured in 25 points to go along with 23 rebounds, the first Indian Hills player to achieve a 20-20 game in over seven years. Das Chagas finished the night 11-12 from the field, including 1-1 from three-point range and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
In his last four outings, Das Chagas is averaging 12.5 points and 14.3 rebounds per game while shooting 67.7 percent from the floor.
The Warriors are back in action Wednesday night as they host Sauk Valley Community College (IL) in a non-league tilt at the Hellyer Center.
