Sophomore KJ Lamonte (Davenport, IA/New Mexico Highlands) and freshman Xavier Wilson (Kansas City, MO/Staley) each poured in a game-high 15 points to lead the Warriors offense. Both Warriors filled the stat sheet as Wilson dominated the glass once again with a game-high seven boards while LaMonte added five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Sophomores Mason Costello (Waukee, IA/Waukee) and Taj Au-Duke (Toronto, Canada/Pepperdine) added 10 points apiece to aid the offensive attack for the Warriors as all 10 players that saw the court on Saturday reached the scoring column.
The Indian Hills defense clamped down on the Volunteers, holding John A. Logan to just 33.9 percent shooting, including 13.6 percent (3-22) from three-point range. Indian Hills forced 19 turnovers on the day, converting those Volunteer miscues into 24 points.
Indian Hills used a sizable 40-24 advantage in point in the paint.
In one of the premiere early-season junior college basketball matchups of the year, the two sides traded blows back-and-forth early on throughout the duration of the opening half. Indian Hills led by five early on, 11-6, before John A. Logan rallied back to take its first lead of the night, 15-13. Neither side led by more than three the rest of the half as Indian Hills took a 28-26 edge into the locker room at halftime.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick start to open the second half as Au-Duke put home a basket before Ater Manyuon (Austin, MN/We Are United Prep) converted a three-point shot for a 5-0 spurt. Indian Hills built its lead to eight, but the Volunteers eventually rallied midway through the half and took a 58-54 advantage at the 7:11 mark.
A three from LaMonte, paired with eight consecutive made free throws allowed the Warriors to regain the lead. The Warriors put the game out of reach in the closing minute of play to finish the RV & PowerSports Classic with a 2-0 record.
The Warriors are now set for its first true road test of the year with a trip to Ephraim, UT to take on Salt Lake Community College (UT) and Snow College (UT), two perennial national contenders. The Warriors will take on Salt Lake on the Snow campus at 6:00 PM CT Friday night and will square off with Snow at 4:00 PM CT on Saturday.
