Park Hills, MO – No. 7 Indian Hills Men's Basketball suffered just its second loss of the year on Saturday, falling to Mineral Area College (MO) 84-78 at the SFC Rotary Shootout in Park Hills, MO. The Warriors move to 12-2 overall on the year.
Sophomore Chaz Watson (Kansas City, MO/Cleveland State) poured in a season-high 17 points on 5-9 shooting from three-point range in the loss. Fellow sophomore Ater Manyuon (Austin, MN/We Are United Prep) added 17 points 6-9 shooting from the floor, including 2-3 from beyond the arc. As a team, the Warriors shot 40.9 percent from three-point range in the loss.
Sophomore Taj Au-Duke (Toronto, Canada/Pepperdine) added 15 points and a team-high six assists while Chiang Ring (Minneapolis, MN/Murray State) added 12 points and a team-high five rebounds.
The two sides battled back-and-forth through the early portion of the contest as Indian Hills held a 20-15 edge midway through the opening frame, including 10 points early on from Manyuon. The Cardinals eventually clawed back to take a four-point lead, but the two squads went into the halftime intermission all square at 37.
Indian Hills took the early lead to tip-off the second half, but the Cardinals battled back to build their largest lead of the night to eight. Indian Hills provided multiple defensive stops to help retake the lead at 73-72 only to see the Cardinals close out the match on a 12-5 run over the final 4:34 to hand the Warriors the loss.
Indian Hills will now head to Las Vegas, NV for the Tarkanian Classic December 18-19. The Warriors will open up against Gillette College (WY) at 4:45 PM on Thursday followed by a matchup with North Idaho College at 5:30 PM on Friday.
