Ottumwa, IA – Six players scored in double-figures on Saturday night to power No. 12 Indian Hills Men's Basketball to a 116-81 victory over Elgin Community College (IL) at the Hellyer Center. Indian Hills moves to 18-2 overall on the year.
The Warriors rolled past the Spartans to claim their sixth consecutive victory. The win pushed Indian Hills to 12-0 overall at the Hellyer Center this year, giving the Warriors 20 consecutive victories on its home court. Indian Hills has now defeated Elgin in back-to-back seasons at home with an average of 112.0 points per game.
Sophomore Chaz Watson (Kansas City, KS/Cleveland State) and Sawyer Mayhugh (Weston, MA/Queens) each tallied a team-high 20 points to pace the offense. Sophomore Chiang Ring (Minneapolis, MN/Murray State) posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Mason Costello (Waukee, IA/Waukee) added 13 points. Sophomores Ater Manyuon (Austin, MN/We Are United Prep) and KJ LaMonte (Davenport, IA/New Mexico Highlands) each added 12 in the win for the Warriors.
As a team, the Warriors put on a clinic from the floor, shooting a remarkable 70.5 percent (43-61) from the field. The mark is the best in program history, dating back to the 2010-11 season. Indian Hills finished the night 9-17 (52.9 percent) from three-point range and 21-30 (70.0 percent) from three free throw line, the second time this season the Warriors have shot at least 50.0 percent from the field, three-point line, and free throw line this season.
Led by Ring's dominant performance, the Warriors outrebounded the Spartans 45-25 on the glass. Indian Hills also found the success in its distribution, dishing out a season-high 30 assists.
Watson continued to score at will for the Warriors as the sophomore tallied his seventh consecutive game in double-figures. Over his last seven contests, Watson is averaging 16.3 points per contest while shooting a blistering 53.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 55.5 percent overall from the floor. Watson currently ranks 21st in the nation with 2.9 made three-point shots/game.
Ring collected his third double-double of the year after pulling down a season-high 12 boards. Ring aided the Warriors' efficient shooting night with an impressive 8-9 effort from the floor. The sophomore added two blocked shots and two steals on the defensive front.
Mayhugh added his third 20-point performance of the year, going 7-11 from the floor while adding seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Sophomore Taj Au-Duke (Toronto, Canada/Pepperdine) added a solid all-around performance for the Warriors with a team-high eight assists to go along with four rebounds and six points. Au-Duke currently leads the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with 4.3 assists/game.
Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Highland Community College (IL) in Freeport, IL January 22. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
