Ottumwa, IA – For the third time this season, sophomore Chaz Watson (Kansas City, MO/Cleveland State) of the No. 8 ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
Watson steered the Warriors to a pair of convincing wins at the Hellyer Center last week – a 94-71 route of Triton College (IL) and a dominant 116-81 victory over Elgin Community College (IL) on Saturday night. Watson averaged 24.5 points per game in the two wins.
Watson has now earned back-to-back ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors, and three of the last four awards. In total, the Warriors have earned nine weekly honors from the league office spread out across five different players.
The sophomore continued to thrive beyond the three-point line, knocking down 14 three-point shots on 21 attempts for a 66.7 percent clip. Watson has now connected on 32 three point shots over his last seven contests, just the second Warrior over the last 15 seasons to reach that mark in a seven-game span, joining former standout Chris Childs (2019-20).
Watson went off for a career-high 29 points on 8-13 shooting from three-point range in the win over Triton while adding a season-high five rebounds. The guard added 20 points on 6-8 three-point shooting in the win over Elgin, coupled with four boards.
On the year, Watson is averaging 10.7 points per game while shooting 48.8 percent from beyond the arc, the top mark in the ICCAC.
Indian Hills is back in action Thursday night with a trip to Freeport, IL to take on Highland Community College (IL) at 7:00 PM.
