Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Mason Costello (Waukee, IA/Waukee) of the No. 2 ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Costello helped the Warriors close out the regular season in dominant fashion, securing two wins by at least 20 points to give Indian Hills a 28-2 overall record on the year. The Warriors dropped Marshalltown Community College 94-71 to cap an unbeaten ICCAC schedule before taking down Highland Community College (IL) 107-55 to clinch a perfect record at the Hellyer Center this season.
Through the two games, Costello averaged 14.5 points per contest while shooting 63.2 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from three-point range. Costello knocked down five three-point shots to move into 10th all-time in school history with 119 career three-point shots.
Costello added 4.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 steals per contest to fill the stat sheet last week for the Warriors.
In a win over Marshalltown, Costello went 5-7 from the floor, including 3-5 from three-point range to finish with 13 points while pulling down five rebounds. The sophomore added 16 points vs. Highland on 7-9 shooting, including 2-4 from beyond the arc.
Costello has now scored in double-figures 16 times this season, including six consecutive contests heading into postseason.
The weekly honor is the second career accolade for Costello who becomes the eighth member of the Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad to earn ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season.
The Warriors are set to host the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Basketball Region 11 Championship at the Hellyer Center Saturday night at 7:00 PM. Indian Hills will host the winner of Southeastern Community College and Marshalltown.
