Indian Hills Men's Basketball Head Coach Cole Dewey announced the addition of Zeke Buyaba to the coaching staff, effective July 16, 2025.
Buyaba brings a versatile background to Dewey's staff. Buyaba's previous experience includes stops at both the junior college and NCAA Division I level prior to his arrival in Ottumwa.
"I'm extremely excited to have Coach Zeke as a part of the Indian Hills family," stated Dewey. "He comes highly recommended from many coaches in the profession. The narrative that I kept hearing about him in the hiring process was that he brings positive energy every day, and is selfless and loyal. These are all qualities that we speak about in our program on a daily basis.
Prior to joining the Indian Hills staff, Buyaba served as an assistant coach at Ranger College (TX), overseeing logistics and operations for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI program. Buyaba oversaw skill development on the court, budget management, and strength and conditioning components of the program. Buyaba was instrumental in player development with the Rangers.
"Indian Hills has a proud tradition of competing for a national championship year after year," Buyaba stated, "and the passion our fanbase has for basketball is unmatched. I'm excited to connect with our supporters on campus, in the community, and the Hellyer Center."
Prior to his time at Ranger, Buyaba spent two seasons at the University of Missouri as a graduate assistant on head coach Dennis Gates' staff. Buyaba was a part of a staff that led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in 2023, capturing the program's first postseason win in 11 seasons. During his time on Columbia, Buyaba conducted video analysis to aid in player development, gameday and opponent preparation, and player development.
"Zeke's experience in junior college basketball and having been on multiple staff's at the NCAA Division I level is exactly what we were looking for," Dewey added. "He has fit in seamlessly so far with the players we have on campus this summer, and I'm sure will continue to do so throughout the year. This year's team is coming together as the summer is starting to wind down, and we can't wait to get started up again in the fall."
Buyaba received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude while serving as the head student manager, supporting practice operations, creating scouting reports, and providing operational and logistical support to the coaching staff.
Buyaba received a graduate certificate from the University of Missouri.
