LEWIS EARNS FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) of the Indian Hills Softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-American team, announced by the organization on Friday. Lewis joins teammate Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) as First-Team NFCA All-Americans.

The All-American honor adds to an already prestigious list of accolades for Lewis during the freshman's inaugural campaign in Ottumwa. Lewis was named the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI DI Softball Player of the Year along with NJCAA All-Region XI First-Team and NFCA Midwest Region First-Team honors. Lewis was a three-time Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Player of the Week and the NJCAA Athlete of the Week.

"Destiny Lewis is a next level player that has so many tools that made her excel this season," stated head coach Lindsay Diehl. "Destiny plays with passion and wants to win every pitch. She set the tone a lot for how we played the game as a team. We are proud of the season Destiny had and can't wait to see what she does in her sophomore season."

Lewis and Anderson become the seventh and eighth individuals in Indian Hills Softball history to earn NFCA First-Team All-American honors. The Warriors have now earned three NFCA First-Team All-American honors in the last two seasons after Nicole Bellis was awarded the honor in 2021. The freshman duo becomes the 19th and 20th individuals to earn NFCA All-American honors overall dating back to the 2001 season.

The two NFCA First-Team All-American picks are just the second time in school history that the Warriors earned two first-team honorees. The 2004 program was represented on the NFCA First-Team All-American squad by Shanna Cook and Heather Parsons. 2022 marks just the fifth time in school history that the Warriors have received multiple NFCA All-American awards, joining the 2005, 2004, 2002, and 2001 teams.

Lewis also set new Warrior marks in runs scored (94), total bases (214), and slugging percentage (1.182). Lewis finished inside the top-10 in school history in four additional categories.

Nationally, Lewis' home runs, slugging percentage, and total bases all ranked second across the NJCAA Division I level and ranked fourth in the country with 90 RBI.

Lewis helped lead the Warriors to the NJCAA DI Softball Region XI Championship and a runner-up finish in the 2022 NJCAA DI Softball Midwest District Championship. The Warriors finished the year with a 46-10 record.
