Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Julia Kwakernaak (The Hague, Netherlands/Segbroek College) has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Player of the Week after leading the Indian Hills Softball team with a dominant performance at the plate.
Kwakernaak lands her second-career ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor, and first this season, after posting a remarkable .565 batting average over six key ICCAC matchups last week. The sophomore went 13-23 at the plate with four home runs, 11 RBI, and nine runs scored to lead the Warriors to four league victories.
Kwakernaak collected at least two hits in all six games last week, including three knocks in a 5-3 win over first-place Iowa Western. In the victory over the Reivers, Kwakernaak tallied two home runs while scoring three times.
In an 18-6 win at Marshalltown on Wednesday, Kwakernaak added two more home runs to go along with a season-high five RBI.
For her efforts at the plate, Kwakernaak upped her season batting average to .384 on the year and has now connected on a league-leading 14 home runs this season. Kwakernaak also boasts team-highs of 49 RBI and a .761 slugging percentage on the year.
The Warriors return to action in the first round of the NJCAA Region 11 Tournament Wednesday afternoon with a best-of-three series at second-seeded Southeastern Community College. First pitch from Burlington is set for 2:00 PM.
