WARRIORS DROP A PAIR ON DAY TWO IN OXFORD

Oxford, AL – The Indian Hills Softball team dropped a pair of games on the second day of the JUCO Extravaganza at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL. The Warriors dropped the opener 6-2 to Jones College (MS) and 4-3 to Shelton State Community College (AL) in eight innings. Indian Hills falls to 3-9 overall on the year with the pair of losses on Friday.

Taking on Jones for the second time in as many days at the JUCO Extravaganza, the Bobcats built an early 2-0 lead before the Warriors evened things up in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Avery Kies (Iowa City, IA/Regina Catholic). Jones prevailed down the stretch, tacking on two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away for the victory.

Freshman Gabby Lane (East Peoria, IL/East Peoria) delivered two of the team's five hits in the loss for the Warriors.

Indian Hills battled in a pitcher's duel in the nightcap vs. Shelton State as neither offense found success early on. Sophomore Hannah Carter (Bethany, MO/South Harrison) allowed just one run on one hit through four innings to keep the Warriors in contention.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Indian Hills finally hit paydirt as sophomore Mary-Paige Withers (Le Claire, IA/Pleasant Valley) delivered an RBI double while Lane added a run-scoring double of her own to tie the affair at two-all.

Sophomore pitcher Maggie Grant (Onaway, MI/Inland Lakes) kept the Bucs in check in the seventh as neither side crossed the plate to force extra innings. Shelton State struck first in the extra frames, scoring twice in the top of the eighth to put the Warriors on the ropes.

An RBI double from freshman Madisyn Buysse (Geneseo, IL/Geneseo) scored Kate Hickenbottom (Davenport, IA/Davenport Assumption) to pull within one, but the Warriors went down in order the rest of the way to fall short.

Kies delivered two more hits in the loss for the Warriors.

Indian Hills wraps up play at the JUCO Extravaganza with a pair of matchups Saturday. The Warriors will take on Georgia Military College at 12:00 PM and Chattanooga State Community College (TN) at 2:00 PM.
