Ottumwa, IA – Sophomores Hannah Carter (Bethany, MO/South Harrison) and Avery Kies (Iowa City, IA/Regina Catholic) of the Indian Hills Softball squad swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The duo put together strong showings in six games on the diamond last week as Carter collected ICCAC DI Softball Pitcher of the Week honors while Kies was tapped as the ICCAC DI Softball Offensive Player of the Week. As a team, the Warriors have now earned a total of four ICCAC weekly honors through the early portion of the year.
Kies starred at the plate for the Warriors, collecting at least one hit in five of the team's six games, including three multi-hit affairs. On the week, Kies boasted a .428 batting average to go along with three RBI, five runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Defensively, Kies excelled in the outfield for the Warriors, making just one error in 21 total chances.
Kies added her first-career home run in a thrilling contest against Jones College (MS), going 2-4 at the plate with two RBI. The sophomore added a career-high three hits in a 12-7 win over Snead State Community College (AL).
In the circle, Carter made five appearances, including three starts on the week. The sophomore picked up the win over Snead State, working 3.2 innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit while issuing just one walk. Carter added four shutout innings in a start vs. Shelton State Community College (AL).
Next up for the Warriors is the Midwest Classic in Shawnee, KS February 27-March 1 where the Warriors will play a total of six contests.
