WARRIORS EARN WIN TO CLOSE OUT MIDWEST CLASSIC

Shawnee, KS – The Indian Hills Softball team wrapped up play at the Midwest College Classic on Saturday with a doubleheader split. The Warriors fell in the opener, 2-1 to St. Louis Community College (MO) before closing out the day with an 11-2 win in five innings over John Wood Community College (IL).

The Warriors move to 6-14 overall on the year after posting a 3-3 overall record at the Mid-America Sports Complex. Over the course of the three-day event, Indian Hills outscored its opponents 44-30.

Saturday's opener against St. Louis pitted the Warriors and the Archers in a pitcher's duel as both sides went scoreless through the first five fames of the matchup. Sophomore pitcher Hannah Carter (Bethany, MO/South Harrison) kept St. Louis off the board early on, scattering three hits over three innings of work.

St. Louis struck first with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Warriors responded in the home half on an RBI single from Cassandra Benberg (Green Bay, WI/Pulaski). The Archers battled back and responded in the top of the seventh with the eventual go-ahead run to drop the Warriors.

Bailey Tegeler (Dixon, IL/Dixon) paced the offense, collecting three of the team's six hits on the day, the freshman's third consecutive multi-hit contest of the weekend. Tegeler now leads the Warriors with a .419 batting average on the year.

The bats came to life in the weekend finale against John Wood as the Warriors scored early and often. An RBI double from Mary-Paige Withers (Le Claire, IA/Pleasant Valley) sparked the Warriors to a four-run first inning while Emma Scully (West Des Moines, IA/Valley) delivered a three-run double as part of a three-run third. The Warriors tacked on four more runs in the fourth thanks to a two-run double from Benberg as Indian Hills ran away with the win.

Scully finished the contest 3-3 at the plate with a career-high four RBI. Houselog, Withers, and freshman Madisyn Buysse (Geneseo, IL/Geneseo) each tacked on two hits to pace the offense.

Sophomore Maggie Grant (Onaway, MI/Inland Lakes) worked a complete game for the Warriors, striking out a season-high seven batters without issuing a walk. The sophomore scattered four hits to pick up her fourth win of the season.

Indian Hills returns to action on March 6 with a trip to Peoria, IL to take on Illinois Central Community College at the Louisville Slugger Dome for a non-league doubleheader.
