Gretta Hartz was tapped as the next head coach of Indian Hills Softball on June 18, 2025. Hartz returns to Ottumwa to take over the Warrior program as the ninth head coach in school history.

A former National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 11 performer with the Warriors from 2021-22, Hartz takes over a program that advanced to the 2025 NJCAA Region 11 Championship series after winning 32 games.

"I'm thrilled to announce the hiring of Gretta Hartz as the new head softball coach at Indian Hills Community College," stated Indian Hills Athletic Director, Kelsi Weeks.

"Coach Hartz is not only a talented and passionate coach—she's also a beloved Indian Hills alumna who knows exactly what it means to wear the Warrior uniform. During her time as a student-athlete here, she set the standard for hard work, leadership, and pride in our program. Now, she returns home ready to lead the next generation of Warriors with that same commitment and fire."

Hartz appeared in 105 career games at Indian Hills, helping the Warriors win 87 ballgames and an impressive .790 winning percentage. Hartz was named to the NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team as an outfielder before continuing her academic and athletic career at the University of Northern Iowa.

Most recently, Hartz served as an assistant coach on the Drake University Softball staff that advanced to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament in 2025. Hartz also spent time as an assistant coach at Southeast Polk High School for three seasons.

"I'm beyond excited to come back to Indian Hills and lead the Warrior softball team," stated Hartz. "As a former player, it's incredibly special to return to the program that helped shape me. I can't wait to help carry on the strong culture of Indian Hills Softball and support our student-athletes as they grow and compete."

Hartz received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Teaching from Northern Iowa and an Associate of Arts in Business from Indian Hills.

"We're proud to welcome her back to Indian Hills, and I have no doubt her experience, connection to this place, and vision for the future will take our softball program to new heights," added Weeks.
