WARRIORS TAKE 4TH AT STATE SHOOT

Waukee, IA – The Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad brought home one of its most impressive showings in school history at the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) / Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) State Championships. The Warriors took fourth overall in the High Overall (HOA) category.

The Warriors placed fourth overall for the second consecutive year, the highest finish in school history at the ICCAC/SCTP shoot. The 2024 squad saw an improvement of 88 targets from a year ago as Indian Hills posted an HOA score of 1,331/1,600 over the two-day event, just 41 targets off the top team of Iowa Western Community College and five targets outside of a top-three finish.

"Overall a very successful weekend for the squad," stated head coach Jake Stalzer. "From officially breaking our team trap record and setting a new standard of 484 to having multiple personal bests and multiple individual placers, and lastly making history on the ladies side with Emma Adams was fantastic to see.  I'm very proud of everyone on the squad and all the hard work and dedication they put into this fall season. That all came to light this weekend and I'm very thankful it all came together at the most important shoot of the fall."

One day removed from making history in the trap discipline with the highest score in school history with 484 targets, the Warriors battled through the skeet and super sporting disciplines on Sunday. Indian Hills took fourth overall in skeet with 471 targets and earned a fourth-place finish in super sporting with 124 birds.

Sunday's outing saw Emma Adams (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) cement herself in the Indian Hills record books by earning All-Tournament honors. Adams earned a spot on the podium by finishing fifth overall in the women's division with 293/350 total targets. Adams' top-five finish is the first at the state shoot on the women's side in program history.

Adams, who competed in all four disciplines, finished the weekend with a strong showing on Sunday. The sophomore placed fifth overall in skeet with 91 targets, tying for the fourth-most clays and also tied for fourth in super sporting with 36. Adams previously took fourth in sporting clays on Saturday to cap an impressive fall season for the Warriors.

On the men's side, the Warriors were led by Carson Abrams (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) HOA score of 314/350 targets for an eighth-place finish in the individual standings. Abrams earned a fourth-place showing in skeet on Sunday with 98 targets and a seventh-place finish in super sporting with 44 birds.

Sunday's rounds saw Cooper Clark (Story City, IA/Roland Story) and Johnathon Boender (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian) tally 95 skeet targets, the second-most for the Warriors while Aidan Eischen (New Sharon, IA/North Mahaska) and Jason Stursma (Harvey, IA/Pella) rounded out the top-three super sporting scores with 41 and 39, respectively.

Sophomore Zane Kirubakaran (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) placed 18th overall in the HOA category with 309 targets while Eischen placed 21st overall with 307 clays, a 16-spot improvement from a year ago.

Along with Adams's strong showing on the ladies side, sophomore Haley Byrge earned a top-10 finish with 276 total targets over the course of the four disciplines.

The Warriors will return to action for the spring portion of their schedule in March, including the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, TX.
