Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad picked up an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) trap dual victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Southeastern Community College 471-455. The Warriors remain unbeaten in ICCAC East Division action this year with a 3-0 mark.
After dropping the previous four outings vs. the Blackhawks, the Warriors outlasted Southeastern on Saturday for the second consecutive year. Saturday's matchup at the Izaak Walton League in Ottumwa served as Sophomore Day for the Warriors', marking the final home shoot for seven individuals.
Freshman Johnathon Swan (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) took home top honors with a meet-high 97 targets for the Warriors. Sophomore Jason Stursma (Harvey, IA/Pella) and freshman Hunter Nelson (Fredericksburg, IA/Sumner-Fredericksburg) tied for third overall on the day with 94 targets.
On the ladies side, freshman Holly Boeke (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) took first overall with 88 targets while fellow freshman Mackenzie Robertson (Seymour, IA/Seymour) placed third overall with 86 birds.
Following Saturday's shoot, the Warriors honored their seven sophomores – Emma Adams (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa), Charles Arntzen (Roseville, MN/Roseville), Seth Bauman (Grinnell, IA/Grinnell) Johnathon Boender (Oskaloosa, IA/Pella Christian), Riley Katzartones (Floris, IA/Davis County), Jason Stursma (Harvey, IA/Pella), and Isaac Weir (Albia, IA/Albia).
Next up for the Warriors is a trip up the road to Oskalooosa, IA for a dual vs. William Penn University on September 27 at the Mahaska County Izaak Walton League.
