Oxford, AL – The Indian Hills Softball team wrapped up play at the JUCO Extravaganza with a pair of losses at Choccolocco Park on Saturday. The Warriors fall to 3-11 on the year.
Indian Hills dropped its opening affair against Georgia Military College in extra innings, 9-8 in a thrilling back-and-forth contest. The Warriors fell in the finale against No. 12 nationally ranked Chattanooga State Community College (TN) 9-3.
Indian Hills and Georgia Military each plated a pair of runs to open the first contest of the day as freshman Madisyn Buysse (Geneseo, IL/Geneseo) delivered a run-scoring triple to spark the offense. The Warriors took the lead in the second before Georgia Military responded with two runs of their own in the third.
The Warrior offense exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to run-scoring doubles from Mary-Paige Withers (Le Claire, IA/Pleasant Valley) and Gabby Lane (East Peoria, IL/East Peoria). Bailey Tegeler (Dixon, IL/Dixon) added another RBI in the frame to push the Warrior lead to 7-3.
The Bulldogs battled back and slowly chipped away at the deficit with a run in the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Georgia Military scored twice in the top of the eighth while the Warrior offense came up short with a single run in the bottom half.
Buysse and Withers each finished the opener with three hits apiece while Tegeler added two knocks for the Warriors.
The finale saw Chattanooga State build a 5-1 lead through four frames before tacking on a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to run away from the Warriors.
Freshman Kate Hickenbottom (Davenport, IA/Davenport Assumption) tallied two of the team's five hits in the loss while fellow freshman Sophia Revallo (Metamora, IL/East Peoria) delivered two RBI for the Warriors.
Next up for the Warriors is the Midwest Classic in Shawnee, KS February 27-March 1 where the Warriors will play a total of six contets.
