Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Shehabeldin Mohamed (Alexandria, Egypt/Smouha Military) of the Indian Hills Men's Wrestling team has been named a 2026 First-Team Academic All-American®, announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Wednesday.
Mohamed is one of just 20 individuals across the country to be named to the Academic All-American® Men's At-Large College Division which recognizes student-athletes from two-year colleges and universities as well as Canadian institutions. Just 0.2% of all NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA at-large men's student-athletes earned the title of Academic All-American® in 2025-26.
"This recognition is a reflection of who Shehab is every day," stated head coach Cole Spree. "He is driven, disciplined, and committed to excellence. Being named First-Team Academic All-American is a well-deserved honor for an outstanding student-athlete."
Mohamed starred for the Warriors over the past two seasons, helping guide the program to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Wrestling National Championships. Mohamed was the 2026 NJCAA 157lb National Runner-Up for the Warriors after a fifth-place finish as a freshman to become a two-time NJCAA All-American. For his work in the classroom, Mohamed has twice been named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American and is a two-time member of the NJCAA All-Academic Team. Abdelhady has also been selected to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Academic All-Region First-Team four times throughout his tenure with the Warriors.
For his efforts on the mat, Mohamed ranks in the top-10 in school history in six different statistical categories, including fifth all-time in career wins (51). Mohamed also captured back-to-back NJCAA North Central District Championships, becoming the first individual in program history to win District titles at two different weight classes.
Mohamed will continue his academic and athletic collegiate career at NCAA DI Long Island University (NY).
In addition to Mohamed, fellow sophomore and teammate Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady and sophomore Mason Costello of the men's basketball squad have also been named as CSC First-Team Academic All-American® honorees.
