Ottumwa, IA – No. 12 Indian Hills Women's Soccer ran its winning streak to eight matches with a 7-0 shutout over visiting Lincoln Trail College (IL) on Saturday. The Warriors improve to 8-1-0 overall on the year.
The Warriors' eight-game win streak is now the third longest in school history after its shutout of the Statesmen in the first all-time meeting between the two clubs. Indian Hills has now outscored its opponents 33-2 during its streak.
Six different Warriors found the back of the net on Saturday, including a pair of goals from sophomore Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons). Fellow sophomore Kiara Levac (Sudbury, Canada/E.S.C. I'Horizon) tallied a goal and two assists in the win.
The sophomore duo both rank in the top-10 in the nation in total points on the year with Louis' 25 points ranking fourth overall while Levac's 22 points are good enough for eighth nationally. Both individuals continue to climb the all-time Indian Hills record books, with Louis' 21 career goals ranking seventh in school history while Levac's 14 scores rank 12th all-time in program history. Louis' 56 career points are now tied for eighth-most in school history for the Warriors.
Indian Hills has now pitched back-to-back shutouts for its sixth clean sheet of the season. The Warriors' 0.44 goals against average, which would currently set a new program record, is good enough for the 12th lowest mark in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this year. Offensively, the Warriors rank eighth in the country with 34 goals on the season.
Louis put the Warriors on the board in the 17th minute on long through ball from sophomore defender Sumiko Ramos (Anchorage, AK/Robert Service). Sophomore Mia Garza (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) doubled the lead just over a minute later as Levac and Louis teamed up for the double assist.
Louis netted her second goal of the game in the 31st minute on an assist from midfield from Levac. The Warriors needed just an additional minute to go up 4-0 as Ella Forsyth (Grimes, IA/Dallas Center-Grimes), this week's NJCAA National Player of the Week delivered a highlight-reel goal from outside the box as the sophomore tallied a goal for the fifth consecutive game.
Levac found the back of the net in the 39th minute on an assist from freshman Jenevieve Kuriki (Pleasant Hill, IA/Southeast Polk) to make it 5-0 heading into the halftime intermission.
The Warriors tacked on two more goals late in the second half to mark their largest victory of the season. Freshman Momoka Kinoshita (Kagawa, Japan/Kagawa Nishi) delivered a strike from within the box in the 79th minute before freshman Olivia Sheffield (Albia, IA/Albia) headed home a goal with under two minutes to play in the match for her first-career goal.
As a team, the Warriors outshot the Statesmen 31-1 on the day, including 18 shots on net. The Warriors earned eight corner kicks to just one for Lincoln Trail.
Freshman Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel) and sophomore Kyrsten DeWees (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) split time in net to pitch the shutout. Combes, who earned the victory, ranks first in the nation with eight wins on the year while boasting a 0.48 goals against average.
Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foe Iowa Western Community College on October 1. Action from Council Bluffs, IA gets underway at 3:00 PM from the Wiebe Complex.
