Ottumwa, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills Women's Soccer used a fast start to push No. 6 Iowa Western Community College early on, but the Reivers prevailed down the stretch, dropping the Warriors 6-3 at home on Friday afternoon.
Indian Hills drops to 12-3-0 overall on the year and 0-2-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with the loss to league foe Iowa Western. The Reivers earn the outright ICCAC regular season title and improve to 12-1-5 overall and 2-0-0 in conference action.
Iowa Western now earns the top overall seed out of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 and earns a first round bye into the upcoming NJCAA Central District Championship. The Warriors earn the No. 2 seed out of NJCAA Region 11. The 2025 NJCAA Central District Championship is set to open up Friday, October 24 in Godfrey, IL, hosted by Lewis & Clark Community College (IL). Indian Hills will take on Illinois Central Community College in the opening round at 12:00 PM on Friday.
The Warriors struck first on Friday with an electrifying goal from sophomore Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons). Fellow sophomore Mia Garza (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) delivered a cross from the far right side of the net that found a streaking Louis from close range. Louis headed home the strike for the initial 1-0 lead.
Iowa Western responded just 20 seconds later, taking advantage of a Warrior miscue in the backfield. The Warriors wasted no time in answering themselves as Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) delivered a bending strike from the left side of the net to regain the lead 22:31 to play in the opening half.
The Reivers emerged late in the opening half, tallying three goals in a 12 minute span to build a 4-2 lead at the halftime break.
Louis sparked the Warriors once again to open the second half, this time scoring on a penalty kick just 1:43 into the second stanza to pull Indian Hills within one, 4-3. The Warriors stayed within striking distance, providing multiple scoring opportunities. Iowa Western eventually broke free and tacked on two goals within five minutes of one another to pull away for the victory.
Freshman keeper Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel), this week's NJCAA National Goalkeeper of the Week, stopped five shots in net for the Warriors.
Louis now moves into sole possession of third-place all-time at Indian Hills with 79 career points. The sophomore is tied for fifth-most goals in the nation this year with 19 and ranks sixth in the NJCAA with 48 points.
