Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel) of the No. 10 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Soccer squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Combes stood tall in a pair of postseason matchups last week as the Warriors competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer Central District Championship. In over 200:00 of action in net, Combes allowed just one goal as both contests advanced into overtime sessions.
In a 1-0 overtime victory in the opening round vs. Illinois Central Community College, Combes stopped a pair of shots as the Warriors prevailed with a game-winning goal in the first overtime period.
In the second round, the Warriors came up short against No. 8 nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Community College (IL), but Combes once again starred for the Warriors in net. The freshman made seven saves in the match and kept the Trailblazers scoreless in each overtime period to force penalty kicks. Combes stopped a pair of penalty shots, but the Warriors fell short, 7-6.
Combes climbed the all-time record books at Indian Hills with her performance in net last week. The freshman is now tied for first all-time with 10 combined shutouts this year while her 12 wins in net are tied for second-most in program history. Combes currently ranks second in the nation in wins this year.
Combes has now collected five ICCAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors this season for the Warriors.
The Warriors will now await their national tournament fate with a potential at-large bid. Indian Hills currently sits at 13-3-1 overall on the year. Eight District champions will earn an automatic bid to the national tournament while four programs will earn an at-large bid to the tournament November 16-22 in Enid, OK.
