Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Ida Smith (Miami, FL/Miami Northwestern) of the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Smith lands the weekly honor after a standout performance in the team's season opener at the Washburn Alumni Invitational in Topeka, KS. Smith shattered her previous personal-best mark in the 60-meter dash to take home the conference's top weekly honor.
Smith set a new personal record in the women's 60m prelims with a time of 7.67 to secure a spot in the finals. The sophomore dashed to a fifth-place finish in the finals with a time of 7.57 to hit the national qualifying mark. Smith's performance in the finals surpassed her previous personal-best mark of 7.88.
The Warriors return to action Friday, December 12 with the Iowa State Holiday Invitational in Ames, IA.
