Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown's Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) starred for the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field team over the weekend at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational. For her efforts, Rose has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Female Athlete of the Week.
Rose made a splash in Ames, IA for the Warriors, taking home top honors in the women's 800-meter run at Iowa State University's Harry Hoak Track. Rose cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 2:16.84, the second-fastest 800m mark in program history.
Rose becomes just the third individual in school history to crack 2:20.00 in the event, a group that includes current assistant coach and 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Champion Aliyah Simmons whose school record sits at 2:10.55.
Rose's time is currently the top all-conditions performance in the nation this year. Rose also leads the NJCAA in the women's 1,000-meter run, set on December 6 at the Washburn Alumni Invitational.
The freshman becomes the eighth individual in program history to earn USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors, and the first middle distance athlete to earn the honor for the Warriors.
Indian Hills will now head into the holiday break before returning to action January 16-17 at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, NE.
