Ames, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Track & Field squad brought home four first-place finishes at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational at the Harry Hoak Track on the Iowa State University campus Friday. In total, the Warriors saw 11 top-three individual performances.
The Warriors saw seven top-10 program marks on Friday to aid in their impressive showing. Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown's Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) starred in the 800-meter run, posting the second-fastest mark in school history. Rose's time of 2:16.84 earned the top finish at the event and currently ranks No. 1 on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Conditions list this year.
Rose now ranks second all-time at Indian Hills, only behind current assistant coach and 2022 national champion for the Warriors Aliyah Simmons who ran a time of 2:10.55.
Along with Rose, freshman Abby George (Albia, IA/Albia) ran the fifth-fastest 800m mark in school history to place second overall with a time of 2:21.01. Sophomore Shmyhia Morris (Memphis, TN/Whitehaven) added a third-place showing for the Warriors with a time of 2:29.87, eighth all-time in school history.
Freshman Karlissa Mungen (Memphis, TN/Southwind) took home top honors in the 60m dash with a mark of 7.59, seventh-fastest in school history. Mungen was followed by sophomore Nyla Blackmon (Memphis, TN/Southwind) who placed second overall with a time of 7.65, 10th best all-time in school history.
In total, the Warriors secured five of the top six performances in the women's 60m event.
Blackmon continued a solid start to the season in the 200m dash with a first-place finish on Friday. Blackmon posted a time of 24.88 to earn her second top-five individual performance of the year. Ida Smith (Miami, FL/Miami Northwestern) added a runner-up finish with a time of 25.21 followed by freshman Ja'kayla Milton (Miami Gardens, FL/Miami Carol City) in third with a time of 25.25.
Sophomore Alexa Zanders (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) took top honors in the 400m dash with a time of 58.05 followed by a runner-up finish from Milton with a time of 59.94.
Sophomore Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) took home third-place overall in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:37.14, just four seconds behind her own school record. Freshman Rebecca Duran (El Paso, TX/Chapin) finished just behind Koonce with a time of 10:52.19, No. 2 all-time at Indian Hills.
Freshman Unique Redmond (Niceville, FL/Niceville) made her debut in the long jump and took home a third-place finish for the Warriors with a mark of 5.31m. Redmond's mark now ranks fourth all-time in school history.
Indian Hills will now head into the holiday break before returning to action January 16-17 at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, NE.
