WARRIORS DROP DUAL TO NO. 5 SOUTHEAST

Centerville, IA – Despite winning more matches than its opponent, No. 1 ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling fell at home to No. 5 nationally ranked Southeast Community College (NE) 26-23 Wednesday night at the Multi-Purpose Building on the Indian Hills Centerville campus.

The Warriors, making their 2025 home debut, dropped the opening three matches to fall behind 13-1 early to the Bobcats. Indian Hills picked up its first win of the night at 124lbs as No. 5 nationally ranked Gabriela Avila Diaz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Academia Bautista De Puerto Nuevo) scored an 11-4 decision to earn three team points. Diaz picked up a pair of late takedowns to surge past Jasmine Ortega, ranked No. 5 in the nation at 117lbs.

Indian Hills continued to battle back with a victory at 131lbs as freshman Kaylea Beauchamp, ranked No. 6 in the nation, earned a win over No. 7 ranked Lacy Lemburg with a 5-0 decision. The Warriors pullled to within a 15-10 deficit at 138lbs as freshman Jasmine Wolfe (Blakesburg, IA/Smith-Cotton) picked up a 5-1 decision.

Southeast earned a forfeit victory at 145lbs, but the Warriors rattled off back-to-back victories behind No. 1 nationally ranked individuals Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union) and Paola Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Rosalina C. Martinez). Hayden, the defending national champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation earned a 13-6 decision over No. 4 nationally ranked Anyia Roberts at 160lbs. Rodriguez, an All-American from a year ago, scored an electrifying fall in just 13 seconds of the opening round to pull Indian Hills within three, 21-18.

The Bobcats secured the dual victory at 207lbs as No. 1 ranked Marth Hinneh, the defending national champion, earned a first period fall. 

Freshman Azreal Smith (Tulsa, OK/Union) capped the night with a thrilling first period pin to bring the crowd to their feet, scoring the fall in just 14 seconds.

Prior to Wednesday night's dual, the Warriors honored their 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship team with an official ring ceremony.

The Warriors' homestand continues with an ICCAC dual vs. No. 15 nationally ranked North Iowa Area Community College at the Multi-Purpose Building Wednesday, December 3 at 6:00 PM as part of a doubleheader with the men's squad.
