Ottumwa, IA – No. 5 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Soccer handled Lincoln Trail College (IL) at home on Saturday, dropping the Statesmen 4-1 in a nonconference matchup at the IHCC Soccer Complex. The Warriors improve to 5-1-1 overall on the year.
Four different Warriors found the back of the next on Saturday with a pair of goals in each half. Indian Hills moves to 2-0-1 all time vs. the Statesmen.
Freshman Noah Liebl (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West), making his first-career collegiate start, put the Warriors on the board with his first collegiate goal at the 11:39 mark of the first half. Liebl headed home a corner kick from sophomore Diego Lazaro (Laval, Canada/Horizon-Jeunesse) for the early advantage.
Lazaro was on the distributing end once again less than seven minutes later as the sophomore delivered a corner kick that found the head of sophomore Vittorio Bellesi (Breno, Italy/Olivelli Putelli). Bellesi buried the attempt for his second goal of the season as the Warriors took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Indian Hills extended the lead to 3-0 as sophomore Bernardo Boeira Hanel (Canela, Brazil/Danton Correa da Silva) buried a penalty kick at the 49:45 mark, his first goal of the season. Fellow sophomore Joseph Redmond (Basingstoke, England/Basingstoke Academy) tacked on to the lead with another penalty kick goal at the 54:35 mark to put the match out of reach.
Redmond, this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week, has now scored a goal in four consecutive matches for the Warriors.
With two assists on the afternoon, Lazaro now moves into a tie for fifth-place all-time at Indian Hills with 15 career assists.
Freshman keeper Santo Aguek (Melbourne, Australia/Thomas Carr), making his first collegiate start in net, earned the victory for the Warriors.
As a team, Indian Hills outshot the Statesmen 18-5 on the day, including nine attempts on net.
The Warriors, ranked No. 5 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer Poll, returns to action September 25 with a trip to Norfolk, NE to take on Casper Community College (WY) in a neutral-site contest at Northeast Community College (NE). Action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
