Council Bluffs, IA – The No. 10 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Soccer squad suffered a 2-1 defeat in a thrilling National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer Central District Championship match with No. 2 ranked Iowa Western Community College. The Warriors fall to 9-5-4 overall on the year.
With the loss, Indian Hills will now await a potential at-large bid to the upcoming NJCAA DI Men's Soccer National Championship, set to get underway November 16 in Daytona Beach, FL. Iowa Western clinches the automatic bid from the Central District with the victory.
Indian Hills fell behind in the opening half as Iowa Western struck first with a goal in the 35th minute. The Reivers maintained the advantage into the second half, but the Warriors provided the equalizer in the 51st minute as sophomore Joseph Redmond (Basingstoke, England/Basingstoke Academy) put home a rebound in the box.
The two sides battled down the stretch, but it was Iowa Western that converted the eventual game-winner in the 79th minute of play to secure the win.
In an evenly played match between two national semifinalists from a year ago, Iowa Western outshot Indian Hills 12-11 while the Warriors earned a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
The Warriors and Reivers, both ranked in the top-10 in the nation throughout the duration of the year, have met four times on the year, with Iowa Western holding a 2-1-1 advantage, but just a 5-3 goals advantage.
Saturday's contest was Indian Hills' 13th match against an NJCAA DI Men's Soccer nationally ranked opponent, and 14th match overall against a ranked foe.
The Warriors will learn their fate for the national tournament at-large bid at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11. Fans can catch the reveal live via the NJCAA Selection Show on the NJCAA Network.
