Ottumwa, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills Men's Soccer suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home vs. No. 3 nationally ranked Cowley College (KS) on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors drop to 6-2-2 overall on the year.
In a matchup of two semifinal programs from last year's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Soccer National Championship, the Tigers prevailed with a late strike with 15 minutes to play in the second half. A valiant effort in the closing minutes proved to be not enough for the Warriors.
Despite the loss, the Warriors outshot the Tigers 9-6 on the day, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Indian Hills tallied four corner kicks to five for the Tigers.
Freshman Matteo Malaguti (Mantova, Italy/Liceo Isabella d'este Mantova) stopped a pair of shots in the loss for the Warriors. Sophomore Diego Lazaro (Laval, Canada/Horizon-Jeunesse) led the offense with three shots on Saturday.
Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Council Bluffs, IA to take on No. 1 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference showdown at the Wiebe Complex. Action gets underway at 6:00 PM.
