Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Joe Redmond (Basingstoke, England/Basingstoke Academy) and freshman Matteo Malaguti (Mantova, Italy/Liceo Isabella d'este Mantova) swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week honors. The duo helped lead the Warriors to a signature win on the pitch last week.
The No. 10 nationally ranked Warriors picked up the two weekly accolades after knocking off No. 1 ranked and previously undefeated Iowa Western Community College 1-0 at home on October 15. The loss snapped a 39-match unbeaten streak for the Reivers and gave the Warriors the upper-hand in the current ICCAC league standings as postseason play looms.
Redmond provided the offensive heroics for the Warriors as the sophomore scored the lone goal in the 88th minute to lift Indian Hills to victory. The goal was Redmond's fifth of the year and third-career game-winning score.
Redmond lands his second-career ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor. As a program, six different players have earned ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the Warriors this year.
Malaguti stood tall in net for the Warriors to blank Iowa Western, keeping the Reivers scoreless in a match for the first time all season. Malaguti secured his fifth win of the season with the win in net.
The Warriors are back in action Tuesday afternoon at home with a key nonconference matchup vs. No. 11 ranked Illinois Central Community College. Action gets underway at 3:00 PM.
