Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Devonni Ferguson (Gouyave, Grenada/Grenada Boys' Secondary) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been tapped as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.
Ferguson set the track ablaze at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.97. Ferguson's mark now ranks No. 2 all-time in school history behind former national champion Kenny Bednarek's time of 45.93, set in 2018. Ferguson and Bednarek are the lone individuals in program history to break the 47.00 barrier.
Ferguson's mark currently leads all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) competitors in the event and serves as the lone individual to break 47.00 this season.
As a program, the Warriors have now captured each of the first two USTFCCCA National Male Athlete of the Week honors. Ferguson becomes the ninth different individual in program history to earn USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors, and the 15th honor overall for the Warriors.
Indian Hills will now head into the holiday break before returning to action January 16-17 at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, NE.
