Ottumwa, IA – Two-time defending national champion Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Galvez starred at the Washburn Open in Topeka, KS over the weekend with a pair of dominant performances. Galvez brought home first-place honors in both the 600-yard run and the men's 4x400-meter relay. Galvez has now captured six first-place individual and relay finishes on the year.
Competing at the home of the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships, Galvez cruised to a first-place finish in the 600y with a time of 1:09.53, a season-best performance and the second-best of his career, just 1.05 off of the sophomore's current school record mark set last season.
Galvez followed up with a strong showing in the 4x400m relay, guiding the Warriors to a top finish with a time of 3:10.06, the third-best mark among all NJCAA programs this year. Galvez anchored the squad past perennial national contenders Barton Community College (KS), Iowa Western Community College, and Cloud County Community College (KS).
Galvez, a five-time NJCAA All-American as a freshman, currently owns three Indian Hills school records. The sophomore collects his fourth-career ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor.
The Warriors are back in action this Friday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, IA.
