GALVEZ LANDS FOURTH CAREER USTFCCCA HONOR

Ottumwa, IA – On the heels of a historic performance, sophomore Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) of the No. 6 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.

Galvez produced one of the most dominant performances in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Outdoor Track & Field history by placing first overall at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, AR on Saturday. Galvez crossed the finish line with a time of 1:46.92, the second-fastest time in NJCAA DI history.

Galvez, who was joined in the event by former Warrior legends and national champions Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall, now members of the Arkansas track program, won the event by 1.74 seconds to boast the fifth-fastest time among all NJCAA levels of competition. Galvez's time ranks second overall in Indian Hills history behind Taylor, and is the top mark all-time during in-season competition.

Galvez, who was twice named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season as a freshman, has now been a part of back-to-back USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors this season after earning the award with the record-breaking 4x800-meter relay squad last week.

As a program, Indian Hills has now earned six all-time USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors.

The Warriors return to action April 18 with the Pittsburg State University Tune-Up in Pittsburg, KS.
