GALVEZ ADDS SECOND WEEKLY HONOR

GALVEZ ADDS SECOND WEEKLY HONOR

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NY/Passaic County) has added another weekly honor to his name this week, earning Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Galvez, who has now been named the ICCAC Athlete of the Week six times throughout his career, adds his second weekly accolade after being named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on Monday. The sophomore made national headlines after a historic performance at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, AR on Saturday.

Galvez produced one of the most dominant performances in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Outdoor Track & Field history by placing first overall at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, AR on Saturday. Galvez crossed the finish line with a time of 1:46.92, the second-fastest time in NJCAA DI history.

Galvez, who was joined in the event by former Warrior legends and national champions Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall, now members of the Arkansas track program, won the event by 1.74 seconds to boast the fifth-fastest time among all NJCAA levels of competition. Galvez's time ranks second overall in Indian Hills history behind Taylor, and is the top mark all-time during in-season competition.

Galvez, who was twice named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season as a freshman, has now been a part of back-to-back USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season after earning both awards with the record-breaking 4x800-meter relay squad last week.

The Warriors return to action April 18 with the Pittsburg State University Tune-Up in Pittsburg, KS.
