Ottumwa, IA – For the fourth time this season, sophomore Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) has been tapped as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week after another historic performance. Galvez was previously named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Galvez shattered the all-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 800-meter run record with a remarkable time of 1:44.14 to win the John McDonnell Invitational event. Galvez's mark now sits atop the all-time NJCAA record books and currently ranks as the eighth-fastest time in the world in 2026.
Galvez bested the previous NJCAA record by more than two seconds. The mark also shattered the previous meet and facility record in the event hosted by the University of Arkansas.
