Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) of the nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been tapped as the 2026 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, announced by the league office on Thursday.
Galvez adds another prestigious honor to an exceptional resume throughout his two-year stint with the Warriors. Galvez becomes the fifth Warrior in program history to earn ICCAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year honors, and sixth individual overall to earn postseason outdoor honors from the conference. Galvez joins the likes of Tate Joens (2023, 2024), Rivaldo Marshall (2023), Justin Walden (2022), Damoy Allen (2021), and Kenny Bednarek (Kenny Bednarek (2019).
Galvez continued his unprecedented run as a Warrior during the 2025-26 campaign. The sophomore made international headlines on April 24, running the fastest 800-meter run time in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) at the John McDonnell Invite in Fayetteville, AR. The sophomore cruised to a time of 1:44.14, a mark the leads all levels of collegiate track in 2026.
For his efforts, Galvez has twice been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and NJCAA National Athlete of the Week in addition to three ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors.
The eight-time NJCAA All-American and five-time school record holder has produced three first-place finishes during the outdoor campaign, including a school record mark of 7:20.35 in the men's 4x800-meter relay at the 2026 Texas Relays.
In addition to the bevy of honors as a sophomore, Galvez captured two NJCAA National Championships as a freshman to go along with USTFCCCA Midwest Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors and two NJCAA Region 11 Championships.
Galvez and the Warriors are set to open up action at the 2026 NJCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday in Hobbs, NM.
