Marion, IA – For the second consecutive year, the Indian Hills Women's Golf squad opened up its fall schedule with a dominant performance to capture the team title at its debut event. The Warriors ran away with the Mustang Fall Invite at Hunters Ridge Golf Course, winning by four shots on Sunday afternoon.
In just its second year of competition at the collegiate level, the Warriors captured its first team title of 2025 after previously winning its first tournament of the 2024 season last year. The Warriors outlasted the 14-team field in Marion by firing round scores of 314-314-628 to finish 52-over, four strokes ahead of runner-up Morningside University. Indian Hills was one of just three junior college programs to compete in the two-day event.
"The team did fantastic work on a challenging golf course with a strong field," stated head coach Michael Shedd. "They rose to the challenge and showed what being a Warrior means. We fight all the way to the end."
The Warriors were led by sophomore standout Joska Nelis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Lyceum Sancta Maria) who surged on the final day to climb four spots and finish in third place with a nine-over, 153. Nelis posted a 2-over, 74 on Sunday, tied for the second lowest round of any player throughout the weekend to capture her fifth-career top-three individual finish.
Three sophomores finished within one stroke of each other to aid in the team scoring as Poppy Norcott (Wiltshire, United Kingdom/Hartpury College) tied for eighth overall with a 14-over, 158 while Taylor Pacheco (Chula Vista, CA/Olympian) and Sofia Saavedra (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Dawere International) tied for 10th place with a 15-over, 159.
Veronica Rodriguez (Santiago, Chile/Liceo A-1310 Buin) climbed four spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 15th-place overall while fellow sophomore Mackenzie Reeves (Rogers, AR/Heritage Rogers) made the biggest jump of any Warrior on the final day, climbing seven spots to finish in a tie for 22nd alongside freshman teammate Julia Petrilli (Carlsbad, CA/University of Nebraska HS).
The program has now won four team titles in 12 all-time events over the past two seasons.
Next up for Indian Hills is The Velvet Classic in Paducah, KY September 15-16.
