Two of the top junior college wrestling programs in the nation are set to square off for the second consecutive season as No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Wrestling will host No. 11 ranked North Idaho College at 5:30 PM on the Indian Hills Centerville campus.

BACK POINTS

The Warriors are set to make their home opener Friday night with an action-packed matchup vs. North Idaho.

  • In a matchup between the top-two nationally ranked teams in the nation last year, Indian Hills upended No. 1 North Idaho 28-12.
  • Four individuals - Gavyn Whitehead, Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady, Andrew Marquez, and Naasir Edmonds all earned wins over the Cardinals during last year's dual.
  • The Warriors are coming off a dominant 50-6 ICCAC dual victory over Ellsworth Community College Wednesday night, dropping the Panthers 50-6.
  • The Warriors have put together a strong showing to open the new year, outscoring both dual opponents by a margin of 102-9.
  • Freshman Jahkari Clark was tapped as this week's ICCAC Men's Wrestler of the Week after leading the Warriors at the Millikin Open.
  • The Warriors entered the 2025-26 campaign ranked No. 1 in the preseason NJCAA Men's Wreslting Poll, and No. 2 in TheOpenMat Team Tournament and Team Dual rankings.
  • Friday's dual is the first of three consecutive home matchups for the Warriors.
  • The Warriors will honor their 2025 NJCAA National Championship squad prior to the start of the match with the official ring ceremony.

SIZING UP THE CARDINALS

The Cardinals head back to Centerville for a second consecutive season after placing eighth overall at last year's NJCAA National Championship in Council Bluffs, IA.

  • North Idaho is coming off a NJCAA top-20 dual victory with a 34-19 win over No. 16 ranked Big Bend Community College (WA) on November 7.
  • The Cardinals have picked up four dual victories to open the year, including three over four-year universities.
  • North Idaho heads to Centerville ranked No. 11 in the preseason NJCAA poll, No. 7 in TheOpenMat Team Tournament Poll, and No. 10 in TheOpenMat Team Dual Poll.
  • The Cardinals feature five individuals ranked in TheOpenMat Poll and a pair in the NJCAA preseason rankings.
  • The Cardinals return a pair of NJCAA National Qualifiers from a year ago in Hoyt Hvass (133lbs) and All-American Ray Griffin (285lbs).
  • North Idaho saw four All-Americans transfer to four-year universities last season, including two-time All-American Elijah Carter who now competes at Grand View University
  • The Cardinals hold the NJCAA record of most team national titles with 14.
  • North Idaho has posted eight consecutive top-10 finishes at the national tournament.

HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH

The top-two nationally ranked individuals in the 285lb class are set to square off as No. 1 ranked Ray Griffin of North Idaho and No. 2 Naasir Edmonds of Indian Hills will match up in the final bout of the night.

  • Griffin is ranked No. 1 overall in both the NJCAA and TheOpenMat rankings while Edmonds is ranked No. 2 in both nationall rankings.
  • Both individuals earned All-American honors at last year's national championship, with Griffin taking fourth overall and Edmonds securing a sixth-place finish to earn a spot on the podium.
  • Edmonds and Griffin both advanced to the quarterfinal round, with Griffin reaching the semifinals before bouncing to the consolation bracket where Griffin upended Edmonds in the consolation semifinals.
  • Both individuals captured their respective 285lb NJCAA District Championship during the 2025 campaign.
  • Edmonds is off to a 6-0 start on the year, winning the Millikin Open before earning his first dual victory of the year with a 15-3 major against Ellsworth on Wednesday night.
  • Griffin is 2-1 to open the year, with dual victories over Montana State-Norther and Corban University, and a loss to No. 3 nationally ranked Hunter Tibodeau of Big Bend Community College.

Indian Hills' homestand continues with an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) clash vs. North Iowa Area Community College at 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 3 as part of a doubleheader with the women's squads.
