VICENTE GONZALEZ NAMED SECOND-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN®

2025 COLLEGE SPORTS COMMUNICATORS ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN TEAM®

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) of the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team has been named a 2025 Second-Team Academic All-American®, announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Tuesday.

Vicente Gonzalez is one of just 20 individuals across the country to be named to the Academic All-American® Women's At-Large College Division which recognizes student-athletes from two-year and colleges and universities as well as Canadian institutions.

"What can I say - this individual is what I think all coaches look for in a student-athlete," stated Indian Hills Women's Wrestling Head Coach Darren Wynn. "She's equally dedicated to her school and sports, being a 4.0 student while also being a two-time National finalist is something not most individuals accomplish. I can't wait to see where Angelica ends up in life!"

Vicente Gonzalez led the Warriors to back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships after finishing as the 124lb national runner-up at this year's tournament to earn All-American honors. Vicente Gonzalez became a two-time All-American for the Warriors after posting a 9-4 overall record on the year, including 5-1 in dual action.

In the classroom, Vicente Gonzalez capped her Indian Hills career as a two-time NJCAA First-Team All-Academic selection for maintaining a cumulative 4.0 GPA throughout her time with the Warriors. Vicente Gonzalez was also tapped as a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American and a four-time selection to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Academic All-Region First-Team.

Vicente Gonzalez will continue her academic and athletic career at Doane University (NE).

Along with Vicente Gonzalez, Indian Hills Volleyball sophomore Ana Carolina Westerich (Blumenau, Brazil/Colégio Energia) was named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-American® First-Team and Indian Hills Softball sophomore Ava Smith (Waukee, IA/Waukee Northwest) was named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-American® Second-Team. The trio become just one of five females in Indian Hills Athletics history to earn the prestigious CSC Academic All-American® distinction.
