WARRIORS BOAST HISTORIC EFFORT AT HOME MEET

Ottumwa, IA – A historic performance from the No. 12 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Cross Country team powered the Warriors to a runner-up finish at its home meet on Friday. The Warriors tallied 57 team points to place second at the Indian Hills Invitational.

Indian Hills placed four individuals in the top-11 individual finishes for one of the most dominant meets in program history. The four times all rank within the top-10 in school history in the 5k event while three individuals earned personal-best marks at Cedar Creek Golf Course.

Freshman Cindy Rose (Brown's Town, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical) continued a breakout freshman season, placing second overall for the Warriors with a time of 18:34.71. Rose's mark cemented herself in the Indian Hills record books with the third-fastest time in program history. Rose's performance is also the top individual finish at the Warriors' home meet and is the best individual time in program history on the Warriors' home course.

Rose's new personal-best mark is 31 seconds faster than her previous top 5k mark this season and is 43 seconds faster than the freshman's collegiate debut time back in September.

Sophomore Tiffani Koonce (Prairie City, IA/Prairie City-Monroe) finished in eighth place overall for the Warriors with a mark of 18:54.26, just one second off a personal-best performance which was set last year on the Warriors' home course as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championships.

Freshman Rebecca Duran (El Paso, TX/Chapin) earned a spot in the top-10 with a time of 19:08.33. Duran's time was just one second off a personal-best time as the freshman earned a 10th-place finish.

Freshman Serene Thompson (Albia, IA/Albia) placed 11th overall for the Warriors, shattering her previous personal-best mark by 46 seconds. Thompson crossed the finish line with a time of 19:16.28.

Sophomore Shmyhia Morris (Memphis, TN/Whitehaven) earned a personal-best time of 21:24.69 while freshman Abby George (Albia, IA/Albia) rounded out the Warriors' effort with a time of 21:36.83.

St. Ambrose University took home the top overall team title with 27 team points.

Indian Hills will head into postseason competition with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championship Friday, October 24 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, IA.
