A tenured professional basketball player, Dustin Hogue's career was jumpstarted at the Hellyer Center for the Warriors. From 2011-13, Hogue and the Warriors claimed 58 wins and captured the 2012 NJCAA Region and District Championships while reaching the NJCAA National Tournament. Hogue will officially be inducted into the Indian Hills Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 22 at halftime of the men's basketball game at the Hellyer Center in Ottumwa.
A native of Yonkers, NY, Hogue joined the Warriors as part of head coach Barrett Peery's first year at the helm. Hogue, a veteran winner in the game of basketball, powered the Warriors to 19 consecutive victories to start his career and earned a No. 1 national ranking in the NJCAA poll. Hogue and the Warriors went 3-1 at the NJCAA National Tournament that year as Hogue earned NJCAA All-Region XI Second-Team honors.
The Warriors opened up Hogue's sophomore season with a 13-1 record and was a mainstay in the national rankings. Indian Hills finished the season 25-4 as Hogue averaged 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
The athletic guard caught the attention of former NBA veteran and Iowa State University head coach Fred Hoiberg who offered Hogue a spot on the Cyclones' squad in 2013. Hogue's winning nature continued in Ames as the Cyclones went 53-17 in two years with Hogue starting all 70 contests along the way. Hogue and the Cyclones won back-to-back Big 12 Championships and reached the NCAA Regional Semifinals in 2014.
During his time with Iowa State, Hogue earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors and was named to the 2014 NCAA Tournament All-East Region Team after tying a school record for points in an NCAA Tournament game with 34 points against UCONN.
Hogue's collegiate career catapulted him to an overseas career that continues to this day. Hogue has made stops in Greece, Italy, Korea, Russia, and his current home in Romania where he is a member of U-BT Cluj-Napoca. Hogue was selected as a VTP League All-Star in 2021.
Former Indian Hills Head Coach Barret Peery on Hogue
"I'm so proud of Dustin and this great honor that he is receiving, well deserved. Dustin was a true Warrior for us during his time at Indian Hills and did a lot of winning along the way. He was a young man that wanted to get better and compete each and every day. He cared about his teammates and what it meant to have Indian Hills on your chest. Dustin is a great representative of what it means to be a Warrior and continues to do that in his life today. Very proud of you Dustin!"
Former Iowa State Head Coach Fred Hoiberg on Hogue
"Dustin will always be one of the most underrated and important players to ever wear a Cyclone uniform. He was a selfless player and did whatever it took to win. He was an important reason why we were able to win back-to-back Big 12 Tournament Championships in 2014 and 2015, as he started every game for us for two seasons.
When I look back on his career, the game that will always stand out to me is our NCAA Sweet 16 game against UConn his junior season. He had a career-high 34 points and six rebounds in front of friends and family at Madison Square Garden and put us in a position to almost upset the eventual national champion and reach the Elite Eight.
Dustin remains one of my favorite players I've ever coached at any level, as he always did exactly what was asked of him. Congratulations to Dustin on a well-deserved honor!"
