Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced the Indian Hills Hy-Vee Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of September. Freshman Holly Boeke (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) of the Indian Hills Shotgun Sports squad and sophomore Diego Lazaro (Laval, Canada/Horizon-Jeunesse) of the nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Soccer team have been honored for their academic and athletic efforts.
Boeke helped lead the Warriors to three consecutive dual victories to open the year, along with a third-place finish at the William Penn Invitational. In her debut with the Warriors, Boeke took second overall on the ladies side as Indian Hills defeated Kirkwood and Northeast Iowa in an ICCAC Trap Dual. Boeke tallied 93 targets to pace the Warriors.
Boeke followed up with a strong showing in an ICCAC Trap Dual vs. Southeastern on the team's home range. Boeke placed first overall on the ladies side to take the top spot on the podium.
Boeke starred at the William Penn Invitational, placing third overall in the High Overall category with 264 total targets. Boeke connected on an impressive 99 skeet targets to take first-place overall in addition to a runner-up finish with 82 sporting clay targets.
Boeke is a Radiological Technlogy major at Indian Hills.
Serving as a team captain, Lazaro was twice named the ICCAC DI Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week throughout the month. The midfielder has tallied five goals and five assists on the season and ranks second on the team with 15 points.
Lazaro saw a pair of two-goal performances throughout the month, tallying five points vs. Crowder (MO) on September 6 and a pair of goals vs. No. 16 ranked Casper (WY) on September. 25.
Lazaro, who was named to the NJCAA All-Academic Third-Team and twice named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region First-Team as a freshman, is an Associate of Arts & Sciences major.
Each month, with the support of the local Ottumwa Hy-Vee, the Indian Hills Athletic Department selects a male and female student-athlete of the month based on their academic and athletic performances throughout the previous month.
