Ottumwa, IA – The No. 11 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad swept Southeastern Community College 3-0 in a nonconference tilt at the Hellyer Center on Thursday night. The Warriors move to 9-3 overall on the year.
The Warriors collected their third consecutive sweep, and fifth overall of the year after handling the Blackhawks in straight sets. Indian Hills moves to 15-0 all-time over Southeastern after taking Thursday's contest 25-18, 25-17, and 25-20.
Indian Hills put home an impressive 19 kills on a .424 hitting percentage in first frame before posting a .429 clip in the second stanza to pull away from the Blackhawks early. As a team, the Warriors produced a .314 hitting percentage, the second-highest mark on the year for the Warriors.
Led by three service aces from sophomore Ana Carolina Westerich (Blumenau, Brazil/Colégio Energia), the Warriors tied a season-high with 12 aces on the night. Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt), Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton), Jorja Hoffman (Whiterock, British Columbia/Elgin Park), and Daniela De Los Santos Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio los Clavelines) each added two service aces in the win.
Sophomore Sara Van Gistern (Leuth, Netherlands/Young Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) produced her fifth consecutive double-digit kill match with a team-high 13 on Thursday while boasting a .407 hitting percentage. Joanna Pawlik (Lublin, Poland/Nauczycieli Tajnego Nauczania) added eight kills on 16 attempts while Nelson tallied eight finishers for the Warriors.
Westerich added 33 assists and four digs in an all-around effort for Indian Hills. Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) produced a team-high 16 digs for the Warrior defense.
Following a daunting schedule to open the year, the Warriors will welcome a six-day layoff before returning to action at the Hellyer Center for a non-league matchup against Carl Sandburg College (IL) on September 11. First serve is set for 6:00 PM.
