Clarksville, TN – The Indian Hills Volleyball squad saw its season come to an end Thursday in the consolation bracket of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball National Tournament. The 16th seeded Warriors dropped a five-set thriller to 9th seeded Blinn College (TX) at the Dunn Center to close out its postseason run.
The Warriors, making their fourth consecutive trip to the national tournament, bowed out of the postseason event after dropping both of its first two matches of the tournament. Indian Hills concludes the year with a 25-10 overall record, the 10th time the Warriors have reached 25 wins in a season during head coach Lyndsey Michel's 14 seasons at the helm of the program.
Despite the loss, the Warriors showed resiliency throughout the match, battling from a 2-0 match deficit to force a decisive fifth set tiebreaker. Ultimately, the Warriors fell by set scores of 19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 27-25, and 15-7. Blinn's run at the national tournament continues against No. 13 seed Eastern Arizona College on Friday.
The Warriors were powered by freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) who tallied a game-high 20 kills with 60 total attempts on the day. Sherif added 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the year. Sherif's 20 kills are the second-most in a single match this season for the freshman.
Sophomore Luana Silva Ferreira (Guimaraes, Portgual/Martins Sarmento) capped her Indian Hills career with a dominant performance, tallying a career-high 14 kills on 30 attempts. Ferreira added a number of key blocks down the stretch to keep the Indian Hills rally alive late in the match. Ferreira surpassed 100 blocks for the season for the Warriors.
Sophomore Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima) dished out a game-high 41 assists and finishes the year ranked fifth in the country with 1,180 assists this season.
Sophomore Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) provided a number of key moments throughout the match and finished Thursday's contest with a game-high 18 digs. Fellow sophomore Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) added 13 digs to move into sole possession of fifth-place all-time at Indian Hills with 654 digs in a single season.
