CHAMPS! WARRIORS HEADED BACK TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Mattoon, IL – For the fourth consecutive season, the Indian Hills Volleyball squad captured the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Midwest A District Championship as the Warriors swept Missouri State University – West Plains 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

With the title in hand, the Warriors secure a spot in the upcoming NJCAA DI Volleyball National Championship, extending its program-record to four consecutive trips to the national tournament. Indian Hills is set to compete in the national tournament for the seventh time in school history, and fifth time under head coach Lyndsey Michel.

vThe Warriors held off Missouri State-West Plains in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-17 to snap a three-match losing streak to the Grizzlies. Indian Hills was making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship match, three of which have come against the Grizzlies.

Freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) wrapped up a stellar tournament with a team-high 16 kills on 32 attempts to lead the Warrior offense. Freshman Amelia Polojanska (__) tallied 10 kills while sophomore Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) added nine.

Sophomore Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima) dished out 42 assists, the setter's 10th match this year with at least 40 assists, including both matches at the District tournament.

Defensively, sophomore Luana Silva Ferreira (Guimaraes, Portgual/Martins Sarmento) controlled the net for the Warriors with six total blocks, including three solo stops. Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) posted a team-high 17 digs in the title match.

Indian Hills will now await its seed and pairings at the upcoming NJCAA DI Volleyball National Championship, set to get underway November 19 in Clarksville, TN. The Warriors have posted three consecutive top-10 finishes at the national tournament.
