Ottumwa, IA – No. 15 Indian Hills Volleyball completed the regular season sweep of Iowa Western Community College, dropping the Reivers in four sets to finish the year 3-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play vs. the Reivers.
The Warriors ran past the No. 19 nationally ranked Reivers by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-19 to move to 23-8 overall on the year. Thursday's match proved to be the regular season finale for Indian Hills as the Warriors gear up for postseason action.
On the night, the Warriors tallied 14 service aces, led by four apiece from sophomores Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) and Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima). Freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) powered the offense with a game-high 18 kills. Fellow freshman Amelia Polojanska (Gizycko, Poland/X Liceum Ogólnokształcące Mistrzostwa Sportowego) added 13 kills for the Warriors.
Indian Hills took an early 3-2 lead in the opening set and never looked back to set the tone early. Iowa Western took a commanding lead midway through the second set to force an Indian Hills timeout, but the Warriors surged past the Reivers down the stretch to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Reivers prevailed in set three to stay within contention, but the Warriors answered back with a dominant win in set four to secure the conference win.
Luiza paced the offense with 44 assists to surpass 1,000 assists on the year for the Warriors. Powell, this week's ICCAC DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, added 19 digs on defense.
Indian Hills has now won five consecutive matches over the Reivers. The Warriors cap the year with a 7-0 record at the Hellyer Center for the third time in the last four years. Indian Hils has now won 32 of its last 33 contests on its home court.
The Warriors will now turn their attention to postseason action with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Midwest District Tournament.
