Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) of the No. 16 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad has been named the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Nelson lands her second-career ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Warriors to a 3-0 week on the court. The Warriors ran their winning streak to 10 matches after going unbeaten at the Lake Land Tournament in Mattoon, IL. Indian Hills sits at 10-3 overall on the year and climbed to No. 16 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Poll this week.
Nelson spearheaded the Warriors in Mattoon with a trio of strong performances. The sophomore opened up the weekend against host Lake Land Community College (IL) with a career-best performance, tallying 14 kills and 17 digs, both career-high totals. Nelson followed up with 11 kills in a sweep over Southwestern Illinois Community College before adding 12 digs and three service aces in a 3-0 win over Frontier Community College (IL).
Nelson surpassed both the 100-kill and 100-dig totals for the season over the weekend and now ranks second on the team in both categories.
Nelson and the Warriors return to action Tuesday night at the Hellyer Center with a primetime matchup vs. ICCAC foe Iowa Western Community College at 7:00 PM.
